Curriculum Overview

From first sounds to complex ideas — a complete literacy system, Pre-K through adolescence

curriculum overview Featured

SFA's curriculum was designed as one complete system — written, developed, and published by Success for All. Every skill is intentionally sequenced. Every grade connects to the next. Oral language, phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, knowledge-building, comprehension — all of it, across every year, without gaps.

Because every lesson gives teachers a clear, evidence-based framework for delivering strong instruction, it works for every teacher in the building, not just the most experienced ones. That's intentional.

What runs through every component

The Cycle of Effective Instruction

Every lesson follows the same proven sequence: Active Instruction, Teamwork, Assessment, Celebration. Teachers deliver strong, structured lessons and students are actively engaged throughout — reading, discussing, practicing, and building on each other's thinking every day.

Cooperative learning at the core

Students work in structured pairs and teams in every SFA lesson, at every grade level — keeping every student engaged and accountable.

Real books — fiction and nonfiction

Students read whole novels, age-appropriate literature, and carefully selected informational texts chosen to build the knowledge and vocabulary they need to become strong, confident readers.

Assessment that drives instruction

Every component includes built-in assessment tools so teachers always know where every student is and what to do next.

Every child can learn to read. Every teacher can help them.

SFA's curriculum has worked in rural, urban, and suburban schools, public schools, charter schools, and private ones, schools with strong teachers and those building capacity from scratch. Every component is built to the same standard: rigorous, research-grounded, and built on nearly 40 years of turning reading science into great teaching in every classroom.

And no school implements SFA alone. Every school that adopts SFA gets the coaching, the support, and the implementation structures to make it work from day one through years three, ten, fifteen and beyond.

For Title I eligible schools (public, private, and charter) up to $100,000 in School Success Scholarship support may be available to help with first-year implementation costs.
